Why You Shouldn't Steal A Segway

from the pretty-easy-to-pick-out-in-a-crowd dept

A week or so ago, I heard a story about how someone had their Segway scooter stolen, and I wondered what anyone would do with the stolen device. They didn't have the key, and it's probably not particularly easy to hotwire. Also, with so few Segways around, you would imagine they stand out a bit. Thus, it's no surprise that a recent Segway thief has been caught after scouring the internet to find a "Segway expert" who could help him "jumpstart" the device. The guy claims that he bought the $5,000 scooter off of someone for $75 (which is entirely possible, if the original thief realized that he couldn't do anything with it, had no idea what it really was, and wanted to move it quickly).

How long before we hear the news about a terrorist who plows into a crowded marketplace with a Segway, and boom?

Wild guess? Approximately two weeks after you say something that actually contributes to the conversation instead of just being a jerk.

Why would anybody ever waste $5K on a scooter that won't let them carry any additional weight (explosives) vs. going to the Goodwill story, spending $10 on a ten-speed bike and filling a backpack with explosives and riding it into a crowd?

You're as bad as those movie executives claiming that movie ticket sales are down because of text messaging/file sharing/DVD burners/(insert some other technology here).

Guess you never looked at a Segway. For extra $$ you can get bag holders. And the weight limit is something like 350 lbs. YOU may not be able to carry additional weight, but others can.
