Time To Get A WiFi Chair?

from the make-your-butt-wireless dept

This past weekend I went to the SF MOMA to check out the latest exhibits. I must admit that I always find the random "modern art chairs" they display to be one of the cooler parts of the museum. Maybe it's because I can at least get my head around sitting in one, and can think about how it might be nice to have such a funky chair in my house. It's a bit tougher to feel the same connection towards a canvas that has been painted entirely white. Now, Intel, in their ongoing quest to co-opt the WiFi brand into their own Centrino offering has spent some of their promotional money on a WiFi chair. What the hell is a WiFi chair? Apparently, it's a hideously ugly chair made up of old computer cables encased in resin. No, it has no actual WiFi capabilities. It doesn't have any capabilities, really, other than letting you plant your butt in it. It looks pretty damn uncomfortable too (just like some of the MOMA chairs). The idea is that they're showing off the fact that you don't need those cables any more. Get it? Well, I'm not sure that I do, but Intel is planning on putting these chairs in select hotspot locations. Forget "Centrino" or "WiFi" stickers. Just look for the really ugly chair with "fossilized" computer cables.
