Telemarketing Industry Begins PR Campaign

from the boo-hoo-hoo dept

It appears the telemarketers are beginning the latest phase in their PR campaign against the "do not call list". They've gotten an article written up about a poor, unemployed, blind man who can no longer find work as a telemarketer. It's not as if the people who are in favor of the do not call list have no sympathy for people put out of work by the end of telemarketing (not that telemarketing is really going away). However, no one ever said that, just because this guy is blind, he should have the right to invade our homes.

    What about foreign telemarketers?

Could not telemarketers just move offshore, so foreigners could call us up and demand we buy their products? They wouldn't have to obey any of our rules either.

    What about other Phone Help

I remember reading a story about a blind guy who worked the phones at American or United. They gave him a special Brail keyboard and output and he was ranked one of the most efficient service people.

Ofcourse this guy would have to find a company willing to set this all up for him (dis. act aside), but there are other phone jobs he might be able to get (and aren't offshore yet).

With jobs flowing to India, and Asia there are not as many jobs in this country. Sad to see that telemarketting is the only growth industry. Very sad.

    Are jobs just for Americans?

Why are jobs flowing to India and Asia bad? Are Americans the only people deserving of jobs in this world?

Other countries should fix their own economies and not rely solely on the States.

If the States put barriers on trade like the Asian countries have then they wouldn't be selling squat in this country.

Keep in mind too, that the telemarketing industry was not created to help poor, blind people. Also, I bet telemarketers would rather work at a different job, such as a telephone help desk; they wouldn't have people slamming phones down on them. People would actually be calling them for a change. Imagine that!!!

Using the same logic, what about the poor unemployed heroin pushers who are out of a job because of drug law enforcement?

The fact that people can make money from an activity doesn't necessarily mean that legalizing the activity (such as using the phone to annoy people who don't want to be annoyed) is good public policy.
