RFID Plus Beer

from the fun-for-the-whole-family...-wait dept

Munich writes "Okay Mike, you have had lively discussions on the site about RFID, here is one that even the "privacy advocates" might be able to support: (Hat Tip - VentureBlog)." Munich is talking about the RFID-enabled beer glass that Mitsubishi is working on. I did actually see this yesterday, but we usually don't post direct links to sites, preferring to stick to news sources. However, I'll use this to point out that I have nothing against RFID, which I think can be quite useful. It's just that there are privacy issues that haven't clearly been answered. In this case, though, it's clearly one where there aren't any privacy issues - and, in fact, you want to broadcast your situation. Anyway, it's good to see places like Mitsubishi working hard on products that will really make a difference in our lives...

In VA, the cops were arresting people in bars for being drunk -- even when they had no cars and had done nothing wrong. See article.

Just think how easy it will be now for cops to use an RFID scanner to spot and arrest the drunk before you even get obnoxious!

(Note: public pressure temporarily stopped the bar arrests)

...god forbid you get drunk in an airport bar... you could be a terrorist and not even know it!
