RIAA Names New Head

from the good-luck dept

After a couple of rumored candidates didn't pan out, the RIAA has hired yet another DC insider to take on the job as their head. This is to be expected, since they are a lobbying organization and you want the head of a lobbying organization to be a political insider. Of course, for an organization that is in desperate need of new perspectives on the music industry, it's unlikely that they'll find it in Mitch Bainwol, who will, instead, likely continue to help drag the industry down - perhaps with the help of his friends in Congress.

  • Meet the new boss...

However, the important point is that Bainwol is not the boss -- he's a hired gun, out to push the organizational agenda. Now, he may give advice, and it may even be taken, but in the final analysis, it's the RIAA members that set policy and establish the positions that their Executive Director mouths. Remembering that helps to explain how there can be pitched battles with everyone going out for drinks afterward. Like they say in "The Godfather" - "it's just business."
