House Votes To Block Expanded FCC Limits On Media Ownership

from the political-fight dept

As expected, the House voted today to block the FCC from expanding media ownership rules. Of course, this probably doesn't mean anything as President Bush has threatened to veto any such measure. Of course, by approving it by such a wide margin (400-21), it certainly seems like they're sending a message - and could, potentially, overrule any veto. Of course, the Senate still needs to debate the bill, and there should be lots of political dealmaking between now and whenever this all gets sorted out. I'm still confused as to why this is that big of a deal. Every time someone tries to explain it to me, it seems like they don't understand it either.
