BuyMusic.com Hopes Listeners Ready To Pay

from the slightly-cheaper,-but-still-a-me-too dept

As expected, Buy.com is now launching their own music download service, called BuyMusic.com, to compete with things like iTunes. This is really just another "me too" downloading service. It will probably find some users, and will make some money, but it's really a shame, because it's missing out on everything the internet and real file sharing services are useful for. In this case, the music tracks are a little cheaper ($0.79/track), but the selection is still a bit weak, and it's still a central server download model. What all these services are missing are the fact that the internet helps people to connect and introduce each other to new music. That's the value of file sharing, and it's something that none of these music download services seem to understand.
