Librarians Seeking Software With Flexible Porn Filters

from the makes-sense dept

It turns out that librarians have finally realized what many geeks have been saying since the Supreme Court decision came down last month saying that the government could require content filters in exchange for federal funds. While the government says they have to use filters, no one seems to be saying which filters (and, more importantly, what they block). They're now asking vendors to come up with flexible, open content filters that they can easily adjust. They say that, should no one agree to meet their demands, they will probably just try to build their own filter that does what they need. Of course, some techies are already a step ahead and have built a simple filter for the libraries to use already.
