Gateway DVD Is PC Friendly
from the pushing-forward-with-a-new-strategy dept
Gateway continues their attempt at becoming the Apple of the PC world by trying to sell a DVD player that easily connects to a home network. While I have no idea how this particular product will do in the market, I do think the idea has a lot of merit. Instead of trying to convince people to buy a completely different kind of box to put on their TV to let it connect to the network, making the DVD player network-connected is a much easier hurdle for most people to jump over. With new DVD players also adding TiVo functionality, it won't be long until people have all their home electronics networked without them realizing it. That's when the real "revolution" in how people watch TV begins - though, the entertainment industry will do their best to stop it from happening.
