Independent Bands Use The Internet To Widen Their Exposure

from the obscurity-vs-popularity dept

Someone mentioned in a comment last week that there are many many more musical acts who are at risk of obscurity than they are of being brought down by "piracy". Thus, it should be no surprise that plenty of bands are realizing that the internet shouldn't be looked on as a pirates den they should fear, but a wonderful way to push for more exposure and to gain new fans. While many bands are still skeptical of things like file sharing services, they are putting up websites with information and free MP3 downloads, while also experimenting with new business models, such as plans to set up private concerts for your biggest (and presumably, richest) fans.
