40% Of Financial Institutions Hacked

from the feeling-safe? dept

I wish there were a lot more details on this one, but a new study from Deloitte says that 39% of financial institutions they surveyed experienced IT security breaches. Of course, the article doesn't detail just what those "breaches" entailed. Was private information revealed? Were financial transactions at risk? Also, the article doesn't make it clear if these security breaches are online, or elsewhere - though, it does seem clear that they're talking about the institutions' computer systems. They also admit that one-third of the security breaches come from people inside the company, which doesn't make that much sense. Clearly, more details on this study would be useful in understanding if it's something that people should really be worried about or (as I suspect) just some consulting hype to generate more business to help "secure" financial institutions.
