Altnet To Pay Kazaa Users For Swapping

from the if-they-can-stay-in-business... dept

Many folks involved in the whole debate over "file sharing" vs. "legitimate music services" seem to ignore that one of the benefits to a P2P file sharing system is that the hosting and bandwidth costs are distributed out among all the users. Now, Altnet, the company that is piggybacking on Kazaa (or is it the other way around?) is trying to make that advantage clear to copyright holders by letting "legitimate" music be hosted by anyone using Kazaa and Altnet - and are saying they'll even pay users who agree to host such files. Of course, it's unclear what they'll pay those users with, since the company is apparently out of money, but that's a different question.
