Europe Pushes To Keep Net Free

from the yeah,-but-will-anyone-pay-attention dept

A group in Europe (its unclear from the article if this group has any sort of power - or if it's just a random group) have come up with a "Declaration on Freedom of Communication on the internet", which is basically a series of recommendations to European governments about the internet. It doesn't sound like any governments are actually compelled in any way to follow these recommendations, which include some pretty basic good ideas about not censoring the internet, keeping ISPs free from legal liability on items posted by their users, and working to decrease barriers to internet access. That is, a lot of these recommendations are so obvious that most governments won't pay attention to them at all, and will do whatever they want.
