Online Advertising Is A Hit

from the well,-look-at-that dept

While most people were looking the other way and arguing whether or not anyone would ever pay for content online, the online advertising industry has gone and made itself respectable. More and more, companies are reporting that the online advertising market is rebounding. Of course, it isn't true for all sites, and some are clearly doing better than others. However, the traditional advertisers have finally gotten around to understanding how online advertising works and what to expect from it. At the same time, more and more people have shown up online - and, as the article says, wherever there's a crowd, there's an advertising opportunity. Of course, this isn't an endorsement of annoying intrusive ads - which tend to do more to anger users than anything else, but it does suggest that there are certainly business models that can survive online via advertising.

I have lived on the Internet since 1991, and have never purchased any product based upon an on-line advertisment...Never!. Additionally, I marvel at the logic behind the pop-up ads i.e. "Infuriate your audience and maybe they'll purchase your product". Personally, I keep boycot lists based upon pop-up ads - go figure.
