Total Information Awareness Renamed Terrorism Information Awareness
from the wow.--big-change dept
In their report to Congress on why they should be allowed to move forward with the Total Information Awareness program, DARPA defended the program, promised to think really (really!) hard about privacy and security issues, and decided to start anew with a name change. You see, it was never really supposed to be the "Total" Information Awareness program anyway. It's now the Terrorism Information Awareness program, which sounds a lot less Orwellian (or, in some ways, more so...). It's funny how you can switch out "terrorism" for "total" without actually changing anything significant in the program and assume that makes it better.
