Interesting look at a new law proposed in California that would require ISPs that receive a subpoena for information about a customer to first forward the subpoena on to the customer before responding themselves. This gives the person the chance to contest the subpoena before their private info is revealed. This makes a lot of sense, and you wonder why something like this hasn't been proposed at a wider level. As it stands now, there's a guy in Pennsylvania somewhere who probably has no idea that he's the center of a huge lawsuit between Verizon and the RIAA on this very matter. This law would have required Verizon to at least alert the guy first.
