Why Apple Should Buy TiVo

from the interesting-ideas dept

Business 2.0 is suggesting that the next company Apple should buy is TiVo. This actually makes some sense. Both TiVo and Apple have quite a fanatical following, and both (for the most part) try to straddle the line between giving consumers what they want and keeping Hollywood happy. TiVo is clearly struggling, but with Steve Jobs running the show, perhaps TiVo could finally capture the market they invented. With both companies currently pushing a strategy that would make their boxes "digital entertainment hubs", the two companies could fit together quite well.

Please don't let Apple kill TiVO before it gets to be a somebody. Apple still can't decide if we're allowed to see inside any of their stuff.

Why buy Tivo when you can make your own stuff and don't want to maintain another OS besides Mac OS X?

If Apple was to buy TiVo, who thinks it would become another iApp for the Mac OS. Maybe still offer a stand alone box for Windows users (with less features?), but Mac owers would hook their Mac straight to the TV.
