FTC Sues Web Sites Over Do-Not-Call Scam

from the more-scams dept

The FTC sure is busy these days taking down online scams. The latest is that they're suing an internet site that claims (falsely) to be taking pre-registration information for a national do-not-call list. The guy they're suing is running two different sites that claims they will automatically sign up users - for a fee - for that list, even though the official list (1) hasn't launched yet and (2) will be free. Best quote from the FTC: "The law doesn't allow third-party profiteers to be in the do-not-call business."

there should be a site that lists the names, phone numbers, email addresses and snail mail addresses of spammers who have been criminally prosecuted... have a little of their own medicine
