(Mis)Uses of Technology

(Mis)Uses of Technology

Balls, Strikes And Videotape

from the changing-the-game dept

While sports like football and hockey have bought into technology to change how fans view the game, baseball seems to be leading the charge to use technology to change the way the game is played. I remember reading stories a year or so ago about how Curt Schilling used his personal laptop to carefully study video of all the batters he was likely to face in his next start. Now, just about any player can use computer technology to compare and contrast (from different days, angles, whatever) their own and others' performances. Some players swear by the various technologies they use - to the point that they will even say the recent batting surge in baseball can be credited to better informed hitters (wait, the pitchers aren't better informed, also?).
