The E-Biz Surprise - The Predictions Were Underhyped
from the everything-is-coming-true dept
This really isn't a surprise for some people, but it turns out that many of those "starry-eyed" predictions of how the internet was going to change the business world during the boom years have actually come true. In some cases, it appears the hyped predictions were too low. So, while the stock market has been having its problems, the underlying value of the internet has still been moving forward full steam. Sure, plenty of money got thrown away in the capital markets - but that doesn't mean that the internet, itself, was a dud. Meanwhile, the believers say we're still only just beginning to see what the internet can do for business. Certainly, companies are experiencing some cultural growing pains as they learn to deal with new technologies, but it appears that companies that are really embracing what the technology allows them to do are seeing the benefits.
