theodp writes "The Authors Guild's request to put used books in a separate section of Amazon instead of on the high traffic detail pages triggered a letter from CEO Jeff Bezos that launched an e-mail campaign in Amazon's defense. According to USPTO documents released Thursday, Amazon applied for a patent that covers selling used books in the same manner opposed by the Authors Guild just two weeks later, with Bezos listed as an inventor. "
