Internet Radio Tuning In
from the again,-not-a-surprise dept
Lots of news today that really shouldn't be surprising, but which large companies haven't been able to grasp. The latest is the fact that many people are turning to internet radio in order to access niche forms of music that they certainly can't find on real radio - which has turned into one large station owned by Clear Channel, playing the same 25 songs on repeat. It seems that the large radio companies haven't quite figured out that there are people out there who like to listen to something different than the pre-programmed "manufactured pop" acts that come out each year. Of course, from their standpoint, the problem with niche audiences are exactly that: they're niche. But, pool them all together, and it's quite a large group of people - and, even better, they tend to be more fanatical about the music they listen to.
