Users Wary Of What Websites Do With Their Data

from the transit-is-no-longer-an-issue dept

It used to be that people were afraid of using their credit cards online, because they thought some hacker would steal the data as it traveled from their computer to the web merchant. Now, however, they've realized that with encryption and various other technologies, that's not such a big threat. That said, the big worry (rightfully so) is that, once received, the web merchant won't properly secure their data. If you look at all the stories of online credit card and identity theft, they don't come from someone catching data as it travels across the internet - but from someone hacking into an online merchant's database that isn't properly secured.
