EBay, Amazon Privacy Policies Under Fire

EPIC and Junkbusters have each filed separate complaints about Amazon and eBay concerning their privacy policies. Junkbusters complains that eBay has a "short, cheery" form of their privacy policy that hides the longer, more onerous form that no one will ever read. Meanwhile, EPIC believes that Amazon is violating the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) of 1998, since their toy shop is designed to attract children. Sites that focus on children are supposed to have additional restrictions in place to prevent children from divulging personal information. Both complaints seem to make a lot of sense - so we'll see how the two companies respond.
