It's been a few years since the whole "Kaycee Nichole" faked-online-death saga. However, that still stands out (for many people) as one of the first major "frauds" of that nature. Now, though, Salon has a story of an even earlier online community "death" that in retrospect, appears to be faked. While the death inspired a number of stories about how someone could touch people they'd never met, the evidence now looks like the "person" in question never really existed.
