Judge Dismisses DMCA Challenge

Harvard Law student (and well-known online activist) Ben Edelman at Harvard had asked the court for permission to reverse-engineer a web filtering company's block-list, in order to show that it's going to far in the sites that it blocks. The company refused to let him see the list, claiming it was their own intellectual property. Edelman figured he could just reverse engineer the list - but realized it would leave him open to a lawsuit for violating the DMCA. However, the judge has now said Edelman is no one special enough to deserve an exemption from the DMCA. So, in the meantime, the company N2H2 can continue to block whoever they don't like, with no oversite whatsoever.
