US Government Surfing For Child Porn

from the that-doesn't-sound-good dept

The US government is apparently looking to put together a huge database of child porn pictures to use for law enforcement. These types of plans always make me wonder. Since it's apparently illegal to even look at child pornography, aren't these government agents breaking the law themselves? The more pressing question, though, is can such a database be abused. It sounds like they're setting it up smartly, though. The system is not designed so anyone with access can just surf through it. Instead, it's used for datamining purposes, to compare a new picture to ones in the database, to see if they've already been categorized.

I know that 'my' point of contact with the FBI asked I not send her the spam containing kiddie or horsie porn and gave me an alternative address.

Said she didn't want the stuff comming up when her machine gets audited.
