Criminalizing Encryption

Once again, the government is mistakenly viewing encryption technology as a threat. They're looking to put a law into place that would make it an extra crime if you happened to use encryption while committing a crime. Of course, this makes no sense. It is, as some have said, like adding an additional penalty for using a crow bar in breaking into a house. The crime itself is what should be focused on, and not the specific tools used in the act. The response is that "if you went the extra step to keep us from getting evidence, you should pay an extra price." In other words, you deserve more punishment if you're not clumsy and don't make it easy to get caught. While this must make sense in the law enforcement mind, it's not very sensible in the rest of the world.
