More On The Personal Hub

from the connect-everything dept

We've spoken about the idea of the "personal wireless hub" a few times recently. Now it appears that IXI, the company that first publicized the concept - despite not having much ready to actually offer the market - is finally gearing up to release some offerings. They're just licensing the technology to other companies, like Samsung and Seiko, who are building it into their devices. While the idea is certainly growing on me, I wonder how it will be accepted in the marketplace. I could see it being difficult to explain to your average consumer who will more likely see it as "one more device I need to carry" and wonder why it's worth bothering. The only way I could see it making sense is if someone released a whole package of products that work off of the hub at once, to demonstrate its usefulness.

but a cell phone, as it is already a radio device, would seem as logical host for this functionality and would not cause one to add another piece of gear to the kit bag...

unless of course this hub could/would also act as a fileserver.
