Disney Looking To Sell InfoSeek Assets

from the search-is-hot-again dept

On the same day they announced that Google will be providing them with search technology, Disney is saying that they've been approached by two potential buyers of their InfoSeek search assets - including some patents. InfoSeek, of course, was one of the early "big name" search technology companies, that was swallowed into Disney for an astounding $2 billion as part of Disney's ill-advised strategy to become a "portal". Now those assets are worth considerably less, of course, but with the re-emergence of "search" as a hot sector, it's no surprise to find out that companies are sniffing around. Overture has probably got its hands full with buying AltaVista and AllTheWeb, but Yahoo (even with newly acquired Inktomi) and Microsoft might be interested.
