Broadband Competition Might Still Be Possible

from the of-course... dept

While a lot of the complaints over the recent FCC ruling concerning the Baby Bells opening their lines for broadband use were valid complaints, very few people commented that by blocking out competitors, the FCC was giving more incentives for alternative solutions. Now, it seems, that even Dan Gillmor - who was one of the more outspoken critics to the FCC ruling - has realized this is true. He's seen the light after seeing a WiFi-based wireless system from Motorola, that would let ISPs do an end-run around the incumbent broadband providers. Once again, a reminder that technology can often route itself around bad regulations.
