BT Cooks Up Scheme To Fight ID Fraud

from the interesting,-but... dept

Not yet sure about this plan in the UK for British Telecom and the UK government to team up to try to stop identity fraud with a system called URU (You Are You). While it's officially designed to protect identity fraud, it is linking together a series of databases - which could also be used in the same manner as the TIA program in the US. However, one good thing about the system is that it's designed to send each person an email alerting them (and asking for approval) any time anyone tries to verifiy they are who they say they are.
