Feds Seizing Domain Names

from the getting-aggressive dept

There were plenty of stories today about how the Department of Justice had taken over the domain of a site that sold mod chips. Declan McCullough, though, points out that it goes much deeper than just that one site. They're seizing the domain names of plenty of websites that they accuse of selling illegal goods. Of course many of the sites have been seized and are now pointing to the DoJ website - even though their owners haven't been tried yet. Interestingly, in the case of iSoNews (the mod chip seller), they took over the domain name, but left the actual server up, and people are still using it to discuss the case, but are accessing it by IP address.
