AOL To Advertise On Welcome Screen

Even as AOL is decreasing the use of third party pop up ads (even if they're replacing them with more in-house ads), they seem to think that they need to keep those advertisers happy with alternative ways to annoy their customers about products they have no interest in. So, now, they're going to sell advertising placements on the welcome screen and the logoff screen. I guess it's a captive audience. How long until their catchphrase is: "Welcome, you've got mail - brought to you today by... "?
