Segway's Breakdown
from the not-doing-so-well... dept
So, despite Amazon's ridiculous claims that Segway's were their biggest sellers, and perhaps the most overhyped launch in the history of any product, it seems that Segway isn't doing so hot these days. Last month, we wrote about some of the problems the company was facing, and this article just goes even further - pointing out that reality simply isn't living up to the hype. Companies and government agencies have tested the device, but very few are buying. About the only well known customer to make a large purchase is Walt Disney, who didn't even buy that many. Segway's factory is barely being used at all. So, now, they've gone back to focusing on the consumer market - but at $5,000 and 80 lbs, with only an hour's worth of battery life, it's not a very compelling pitch.
