Bands That Embrace File Sharing
from the just-a-few,-but-growing... dept
With all the stories pointing out where the music industry is screwing up, we might as well post a story or two that show where things are being done right. Slowly, but surely, more and more bands are realizing that they should embrace the idea of file sharing - especially when it comes to giving out live recordings of their concerts. What they've realized is that their music is a promotional item for the band and (even better!) it's a free promotional item that comes complete with a free distribution system. So far, it's mostly being embraced by artists who are big on live performances and touring. Of course, this sort of shift is a big problem for the labels who get most of their money from CD sales, and not touring. However, the actual musicians often make more money from touring than from CD sales... so it wouldn't be a surprise to see more bands start pushing for this sort of file sharing.
