Jim Romenesko's MediaNews Avoids Trademark Problem - Becomes Just Romenesko

from the ah,-those-one-word-names dept

Jim Romenesko's MediaNews, is of course one of the most popular outlets for news about the media. Apparently, though, newspaper publisher MediaNews Group only just discovered the site and its possible trademark infringment. So, they have forced Romensko to change the site's name to just "Romensko". I guess it's sort of a Madonna one word name sort of thing. It sounds like the MediaNews Group lawyers weren't being entirely unreasonable, as they suggested they'd be fine if Romenesko simply added a space between Media and News. However, because Romenesko and Poynter (the group that pays Romenesko) believe that Romenesko has built his own brand, they figured they'd avoid any possible confusion and get rid of the MediaNews part completely. Now, the question is when will the site start going by the name of a symbol that can't be pronounced? Then it would be known as the "site formerly known as Romenesko".
