Computer Users At Risk Of E-Thrombosis

from the stand-up-every-once-in-a-while dept

Ergonomics experts have also said that people should try to stand up and stretch every so often when working at their computer. Now, some researchers are reporting cases of people who have been sitting at their computer too long without moving, experiencing blood clots. It's a condition known as "deep vein thrombosis". Though, in an effort to "e" everything (didn't that go out of style in 2000?), the researchers propose calling cases where its due to computer usage "e-thrombosis". Anyway, the moral of the story is, get up and stretch every once in a while. Move around. Exercise. Get away from the damn computer. Okay, now you can come back for another hour or so.

A reputable medical researcher would avoid coining catchy phrases that would be misinterpreted by the ignorant media.

So, one of two things happened --

    1. ABC News reporters came up with the term and coaxed the researcher into calling it "e-embolism".

    2. The researcher is a publicity hound, and he will be shunned by reputable researchers.
