MonsterHut Told To Stop Spamming
from the a-useful-tool dept
New York's Supreme Court has ruled that famed spammer, Monsterhut, broke the law and can no longer send spam. This story has been going on for a while, and MonsterHut has already shut down. However, the ruling sets a precedent and hands a useful tool to NY Attorney General, Eliot Spitzer in going after other spammers. The judge ruled, specifically, that MonsterHut had shown no proof of conforming to opt-in procedures. This is a good thing, since so many in the direct marketing world have been pushing to to say that "opt-out" is a good enough barrier. Now there's a court, on record, saying that opt-in should be the standard practice.
