Barry Diller's New Role: Cupid

from the take-what-life-gives-you dept

While there has been a lot of speculation over the past year or so about what companies Barry Diller is going to scoop up next, he seems pretty excited about bringing people, not companies, together via Match.com, which is part of his USAi. While that isn't really news, the article does make a good point about all the various properties that Diller runs. While other internet "conglomerates" tried to become destination portals, Diller's sites all focus on removing middlemen from transactions. This isn't entirely true, since those sites themselves now become the "middlemen", but the idea is sound. When comparing his properties to other online media ventures, you begin to realize that Diller's sites all realize that the internet is interactive, whereas other companies are more focused on pushing content.
