FTC Hits Funding Snag In Effort To Restrict Telemarketing Calls

from the hurry-up-and-wait dept

While plenty of people have expressed support for a national "do-not-call" registry that was proposed by the FTC last month, it seems that some telemarketing lobbyists have reached out to their friends in Congress. Rep. Tauzin has announced that he'll block funding for such a list until more research has been done into the idea. In other words, a delay tactic that means it's unlikely such a list will come into existence for at least another year. I have no issue with making sure the implementation is sound, but delaying it a year seems a bit extreme.

Where in the constitution does it state that the corporations get to make the rules?
I was under the (possibly) mistaken impression that our's was a government of the *people* by the *people* and for the *people*.
