Spam Works For Indian Filmmaker
from the not-really-spam,-though... dept
As we were just talking about how terrible spam is, here's an article saying that it's working for an Indian filmmaker trying to raise money to make his film. The headline is a bit misleading, though, because this isn't really spam. He started out just by sending an email to his friends, saying that he needed money to make this movie (he's already a semi-successful actor). I assume, from there, the email got passed on to other friends who have been donating small amounts to the movie project. This isn't typical "spam". He also says that he wouldn't do this again. He thinks it's only working because of the novelty of doing it the first time. What's scary is that some people are going to read this and think that they, too, should try to raise money for projects this way.
