   Didn't hp or Compaq propose building some humongous "Tech City" campus in South San Jose back during the dot com era? They also talked about building a new futuristic high-tech city next to Fresno with a fiber optic connection to every home.
   
   It did have that pipe dream feel to it, like those science shows of the 1970s that predicted we would have cities in space by the year 2000.

   HP already cancled the Alpha chip they got from COMPAQ/DEC. It's 10 years old and still one of the fastest 64-bit architectures out there. DEC didn't know how to market it, now HP isn't even bothering. Sad.

   Maybe it was Cisco. On the south San Jose campus, they were going to hire 10,000 new workers at this Tech City, and local governments were opposed to the burden it would create.
   
   The tech city near Fresno was put forth by Nortel, possibly to compete with Cisco.
