Gateway Tries Trade-Ins To Boost Sales
from the trying-everything dept
Gateway seems to be trying absolutely everything they can to make money. I thought we'd seen the last of their experiments for a while last week when they decided to offer a buy one, get one free deal (not so long after starting to sell plasma TVs, offering songs from PressPlay on the hard drives, and using their in store computers for distributed applications). However, now they've taken a page from the car dealer's playbook and are letting people trade in their computers to get a discount on "future purchases". A lot of these moves smack of desperation on the part of Gateway, as they try throwing everything up against the wall to see what sticks.
