Hawaii's First Stealth Pine Tree

from the such-a-big-debate dept

Joe Schmoe writes "A nationwide trend of disguising cellular phone antennas will result in the Hawaii's first "stealth pine tree" at Kalihi Elementary School." It's no secret that most new mobile phone towers in populated areas are disguised to look like trees or other objects. However, this article is a bit amusing because of the focus on how exciting everyone seems to find this first "stealth" pine tree in Hawaii. Also, technically, it's not actually a stealth pine tree, is it? The pine tree is pretty damn obvious from what they say. It's the antenna that's stealth.

So they're falling for that old chestnut that radio waves cause cancer? Hawaii tries to sell itself as a "multimedia corridor" linking Silicon Valley with Japan, but incidents like this illustrate the depth of their ignorance.
