Amazon To Run CDNow
from the and-so-it-goes dept
I remember, years ago, when Amazon first decided to start selling CDs, in addition to books, everyone was concerned about what would happen with CDNow. The folks at CDNow claimed they weren't worried, and believed they had a strong advantage over Amazon in the CD space. Well, clearly, that never held true, and now Amazon is going to be running CDNow. Bertelsmann, under a new management team that is not particularly excited by the internet, is trying to get rid of the various expenses associated with the internet properties (including CDNow, which they bought a few years ago). As Amazon starts running the backend of more and more e-commerce sites, it makes you wonder how much "choice" people will really have. There's not much price competition when everything goes through Amazon.
