In Silicon Valley, Return To Humbler Tech Dreams

from the is-that-really-true? dept

Yet another article from a non-Silicon Valley reporter, talking about the changing culture of Silicon Valley. You can tell they're not from here because (1) they're still fascinated by Buck's Restaurant, a story that's been told too many times (2) as an example of "excess" from times past that won't be seen again they use (of all the possible choices) eBay's purchase of PayPal that happened less than six months ago and (3) they think it's noteworthy that a VC returned some of the money he raised. However, they do make a good point that many who are still left in Silicon Valley are people who love technology for the sake of technology, and are glad to see the opportunists looking for the quick payout leave. For many, there is still a sense of optimism about technology - though, not necessarily about cashing out early and retiring at age 23.
