China's Cyberwall Nearly Concrete
from the no-IP-addresses-for-you! dept
It seems that many people are worried that China is getting so far ahead with their national firewall, it will become increasingly difficult to find ways around it. They want the support of the US government to help fund methods for bypassing the firewall. The article points out, interestingly, that most of the technology used by China to block out sites is made by American companies. In somewhat related news, in one Chinese province, users now have to use special ID cards to surf the internet at any internet cafe. The cards then log all activity, associate it with the cardholder, and store it in a police database, so they can make sure no one is surfing "dangerous" sites.
