Attention, Cows: Please Speak Into the Microphone

from the not-so-much-of-a-joke? dept

For many months now, a bunch of us at Techdirt have had fun laughing about the concept of the "Bowlingual" dog translator. Perhaps the last laugh is on us. The NY Times has a story looking at the market for animal translators. Apparently, it's a niche market for some voice recognition-style offerings, that people tune to understand the wants of specific animals. While the vocabularies of animals tend to be much smaller (theoretically making it easier) there is still the problem that we really don't have a translator to tell us what the animals are really saying in the first place.
