Loyal Site Visitors Don't Mind Ads

from the depends-on-the-ads dept

I can see this study being stretched into a "what's good for GM, is good for the country" style argument, but a recent study says that loyal website visitors don't mind ads. Or, at least that's what the headline claims. The details are a little less clear. All the study seems to really show is that people who go to some fairly well known sites, think that their advertisers are "high quality". All that really means is that they don't think the NY Times will sell ads to a shady company - and not that they don't mind the ads. Also, the study doesn't seem to take into account the types of ads presented. Were these just banner ads? Pop ups? Interstitials? I still think that most people are quite frustrated with intrusive advertising. This is just an attempt to justify those ads whenever consumers complain.

Yeah, like are we Americans to believe this study from the so called association in charge of all those annoying ads and popups? I think not. Only dullards, 3 year olds, and blind people don't mind web ad's - which one did this study poll? Must be the dullards, if people would stop responding to popups and spam, they would finally go away. Wake up people.

I don't really think that many people DO in general respond to ads. I really don't have numbers, so I COULD be wrong, though I'm probably not. I mean, the percentage of responses couldn't be more than a fraction higher than ppl responding to spam.
The problem is that these people are so cut off with reality when searching for the almighty dollar that they don't care if they are pissing millions to get the dozens that buy. Or even better, they figure they are getting their "name brands" out there...And think about it, the general public as sheep DO act that way...when they look for a cheap PC Cam...they think X10...they don't look around and they'll buy even if the popups pissed them off before.

Are the vistors loyal to the site because the ads are tolerable in the first place, maybe ?

Is it possible that they've blocked most/all of the really annoying ads and are just seeing the minor/not-so-intrusive ads that slip through?

...and people who are using Mozilla and its ad blocking / popup blocking capabilities!
